Is Maintenance Needed on a Ductless HVAC System?

is maintenance needed for a ductless system?

It’s hard to imagine life without a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system in your Round Rock home. Unfortunately, you risk this inconvenience when you skip routine HVAC maintenance. This goes for ductless mini splits too!

That’s right—even ductless systems require the filter to be routinely cleaned, and that’s in addition to professional maintenance at least once every year.

When it comes to your heating and cooling questions, our AiRCO Heating & Air Conditioning experts are here with the answers! Our team of highly skilled professionals is prepared to provide you with detailed information and exceptional service. Whether you’re looking for ductless HVAC installation, maintenance, or repairs, you can count on us.

What Is a Ductless System?

A ductless mini split system is a high-efficiency HVAC system capable of operating without any ductwork. The ductwork in your HVAC system can form tears, allowing the conditioned air to escape. This is not the case with a ductless system, causing it to operate more efficiently.

These systems are also optimal because they transfer heat instead of producing it, resulting in less energy usage. In fact, when you upgrade to a ductless mini split, you could even reduce your costs by 30 percent, according to ENERGY STAR®

Ductless mini splits focus on heating and cooling a specific area of your Texas home rather than the entire place. There are blowers installed in different parts of your home so the air can be distributed accordingly, allowing for varying climates throughout your home as part of this zone control feature.

How Ductless Systems Work

There are three components of a ductless system: the condenser (outdoor unit), air handler (indoor unit), and small conduit designed to connect the two. Ductless mini split systems are compact and can easily be installed on a wall or ceiling to allow for the distribution of heat or cool air in the area.

To heat your home, a ductless system will remove heat from the outside, absorb it with the help of a coolant, and transfer it to the inside of your home. When cooling your home, the ductless system does the opposite, removing warm air from the inside of your home and transferring it outside to the condenser.

Importance of Ductless HVAC Maintenance

It’s important to remember all HVAC systems, including ductless mini split systems, should have routine maintenance in order to continue functioning properly. During scheduled maintenance with one of our AiRCO Heating & Air Conditioning professionals, your ductless mini split system will be thoroughly cleaned and inspected.

This strategy will help ensure your system is operating in ideal condition and prevent more energy from being used than necessary, ultimately helping you save money.

Routinely Cleaning Your Filter

Each ductless mini split has its own air filter, and taking the time to clean it every two weeks is critical. Before pulling it out, be sure the system is turned off.

Then, you simply open the panel, slide the filter out, and wash it with water. You can use your sink’s faucet sprayer, if you have one, to ensure a thorough wash. Alternatively, you can vacuum off the debris on the filter first and then wash anything that remains on the filter afterward.

Let the filter sit and dry. Once it is dry, place the filter back into the ductless mini split and relish in the fresher, cleaner air!

Improved IAQ

When you clean and care for your ductless mini split properly, you get to experience the additional benefit of improved indoor air quality (IAQ) in your home. It’s also worth noting that ductless systems are able to help prevent the accumulation of dust and debris that often gathers in traditional forced air systems.
