5 Plumbing Problems That You Shouldn’t Ignore

Leaking Pipe.

Plumbing issues have a nasty way of getting progressively worse and more expensive as they’re left unfixed. Water is a powerful chemical, and it always finds a way to where it wants to go. Avoiding a repair is like adding fuel to a fire (except water is the opposite of fire; if only there was a better analogy). As your friendly neighbors in Austin, AiRCO Mechanical recommends scheduling a visit with one of our plumbers. That way, the problem won’t get even worse.

Here are 5 problems that you shouldn’t ignore:

Leaky Sink

Leaky faucets are a well-known water waster. In fact, the EPA reports that a leaky faucet could use up to 10,000 gallons of water a year. Leaky faucets squander a basic natural resource, and cost you extra every month. They can usually be repaired within minutes, for a relatively low price. Schedule one soon and save massively.

Runny Toilet

Toilets that constantly run waste thousands of gallons every year. In addition to their annoying sound, they will make a significant impact on your water bill. Just like leaky sinks, running toilets can usually be remedied quickly. Often times, the chain linked to the flapper is kinked, or the flapper is poorly angled, which causes water to continually drain. With a minute or two of work, you can save tons of money.

Oversized or Undersized Sump Pump

When your sump pump is the wrong size, it can cause all sorts of issues. Undersized pumps have more water than they can handle, which can lead to flooding and major water damage. An oversized sump pump utilizes too much energy, and will wear out faster. If you think you may have been set up with the wrong sump pump, call one of our plumbers.

Loud Sounds Coming From the Water Heater

If your water heater is making weird thumping noises, this isn’t normal, and shouldn’t be ignored. Usually, this is caused by residue accumulating at the bottom of the tank. When the residue moves around, it makes noise. The movement, in turn, causes bubbling at the top of the tank, which also makes noise. During annual check-ups, you should have your hot water tank drained and cleaned to avoid this issue. If you notice this happening, schedule an appointment with your plumber immediately.

Dripping Noises Inside the Walls or the Ceiling

These noises usually indicate a leak. This can cause the material on your walls and ceilings to rot, creates significant water damage to your home, and provides a cornucopia for mold and mildew. This is a problem that requires immediate attention from a plumber, because it can quickly reduce the value and health safety of your home.
